Mercy Killing Application!

A Shocking News: Application for Mercy Killings of Sons! (Click on this Link to see the Video)

A farmer and his wife in Uttar Pradesh have sought President Pratibha Patil's permission for the mercy killing of all their four sons who have turned into virtual vegetables. The four, aged 10 to 16 years, have been afflicted by muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease that has confined them to bed.
On one side, we have a vibrant and modern India seamlessly marching ahead and wanting to achieve the horizon, where as on the Flip side we have a Poor Father wanting to kill his own sons due to poverty.

This is the ground reality which reveals the gap between the urban and rural India. How difficult it would have been for those parents to apply for mercy killings of their own sons. Can we ever imagine overselves in their situation? A Shivering wave of horror just passed through me on thinking of myself in their shoes. This also highlights the brutuality and inhuman attitude of the Mayawati Govt towards the backward and poor section of the society. When the UP Govt. has millions and billions to spend on the stones for Statues which will serve no purpose, why can't it step forward and intervene to reject this application of mercy killing?
I am sad and my heart is crying out for those four boys . What is their fault? To get born in a poor family or to get affected from muscular dystrophy ? Neither of them was in their hand, so should they pay the price for it.
I have faith in my Govt and my country men who will make sure that this mercy killing application is rejected and also ensure that the four boys get the proper treatment.

Should We Ban or Tax the Plastic Bag?

Posted by Varun | | Posted On Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:54 PM

This article is going to be my first eco-friendly article :) Yup! I am going to pour in my thoughts to tackle /suggest some views which can help to achieve an equilibrum in Environment!
I am not an environmentalist and nor do i have a thorough knowlegde of various methods which can help in reducing the environmental degradation. But one thing which i am sure every person sees and is aware of is Plastic and its usage which accounts for almost 30-45 % of our daily wastage. Though Plastic related items like Plastic bags have now become a necessity for man be it for shopping in Super Market or some other use. One thing which we most of them are not aware of are is the fact that Plastic is not Biodegradeable and it takes 1000s of years to disintegrate.Imagine, some years down the line, the pollution caused and amount of Plastic wastage littering in our society.

It is not completely possibly to eliminate the usage of Plastic or nor a ban on plastic usage can be proved constructive. A simple and sober solution to tackle this problem can be to have PLASTIC TAX. Government should consider this as a viable solution which in the long run can definitely prove fruitful with desired outcome.Countries like Ireland have already implemented this interesting law of Plastic Tax . Some of the Pros and Cons of having this Law Implemented in India are as follows:

Advantages of Plastic Tax:

1. Reduces costs to shops - Usually shops are reluctant to charge for plastic bags. But, if they have to charge, people will be increasingly likely to use alternatives and reuse old bags
2. Reduces Litter - Almost in all the prime and downtown locations of Chennai, the real problem was litter, 50% of which seems to be plastic bags. If plastic bag use was discouraged the amount of litter would significantly be reduce.
3. Wildlife Impact - Because plastic bags can float around they can often cause problems for wildlife.
4. Reduce dependence on oil based products. Because plastic bags are made from oil they increase our dependence on oil imports. With rising prices of oil there is an increased desire to avoid oil products where necessary
5.Tax Raises Revenue - A good source of Income for the government

Disadvantages of Plastic Tax

1. Plastic bags are useful. For example, People use them from carrying thier dog's mess to a carrying restaurant packed food. This however, is not an insoluble problem.

2. More difficult to carry shopping. Plastic bags are useful for carrying shopping, people could use reusable bags, but, there is a low take up rate at the moment.

I believe this will be a good way to start off to try to work together for Eco-Balance.
Please leave your comment on what's your thought /take on this.

Chennai Law College Violence!

Posted by Varun | | Posted On Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 10:01 AM

I am sad and so much disappointed after seeing the video footage of the Chennai Law College Violence which took place last week!

The video is so disturbing with couple of law students so badly beaten up with wooden sticks and rods by their fellow college mates. Even more disturbing was the inactivity of the State police which was just a spectator to all this violence.

Can you guess the reason behind this violence??? Wel even i took some time to believe that this also could be a cause for some serious violence. The reason was that one of the college group didnt have Dr. Ambedkar ( The person after whom the college is named ) 's photo in their poster. If Dr. Ambedkhar would have been alive to see this he would have regretted so much .

I am sure Non-Indians would be wondering what kind of people are we! We preach about many great things like secularism , democracy and what not, but fail miserably to practice it in it true senses. Here in this incident the future law and justice providers are themselves breaking the law for such a petty issue! Wel I want you to have a look at the video yourself so that you can realise the situation .

Wonder When my country will get rid of all this and be in the Elite Club. All great things doesnt happen overnight and it requires a beginning! The beginning is here and will start soon with the new generation of educated and qualified leaders coming up and giving a practical shape to India's vision .

Stay tuned!
